The Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Atanas Georgiev, was elected as the Acting Director of the Institute of Law, Economics, and Intellectual Property (ILEIP) at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski". The decision was confirmed by the Institute’s Board of Directors, which includes Sofia University Rector Prof. Dr. Georgi Valchev, the Dean of the Faculty of Law Prof. Dr. Daniel Valchev, and the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration Assoc. Prof. Dr. Atanas Georgiev.

The Institute was established through an initiative by the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration at Sofia University, under Decree No. 13 of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Bulgaria from January 24, 2019. Its main activities include conducting research in the fields of law, economics, and intellectual property, aimed at expanding and enriching education and practice in these areas; managing the university’s intellectual property; facilitating technology transfer; and promoting the commercialization of scientific results and intellectual property assets of the university. The ILEIP actively works to establish Sofia University as a leading research university both nationally and internationally.

The former Director of the Institute of Law, Economics, and Intellectual Property, Prof. Dr. Vladya Borissova, a lecturer in the "Business Administration" Department of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration and the Director of the English-language Master's program "Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer" assumed the position of Director of the EU Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) in Alicante, Spain, at the end of August 2024.
