- Nomination procedure
The interested student have to be nominated officially by the respective coordinator from the International Relations Office at the Home University via email. The email should include the following information for the student :
- full name;
- study cycle (BA, MA, PhD) and year of study;
- faculty;
- nomination period;
- email address.
Note: The study period at Sofia University should not be longer than one academic year i.e. from 1 (winter) to 2 (summer) semesters.
- Application procedure
The nominated student should apply for a short-term study with the following required documents:
- Application form should be duly filled in electronically (not handwritten), signed by student and signed and stamped by the Home University
Please consider the following instructions when preparing the Planned Study Programme part (page 3 in Application form):

You are obliged to choose the courses only from your Host Faculty at Sofia University. The list of courses is available on the following link https://erasmus.uni-sofia.bg/site/income/courses/
(choose these list of courses available for the academic year for your short-term mobility) - The ECTS of each course should correspond to the information published on our website.
- You are required to include the course code. Do not forget it!
- Valid Language Certificate of English Proficiency - the student is asked to prove language skills equivalent to level B1 of CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). For proving their language proficiency, the students have to present a language certificate for English B1. The certificate should be issued in English language by TOEFL (min. 450/130/60), IELTS (min. 4.5 scores), Cambridge Preliminary English Test Certificate (Cambridge English Scale score - min. 140 scores)
- Transcript of Records with all courses attended by the student issued by the Home University, in English;
- Copy of the international passport (valid 6 months after the short-term period expires).
The application documents should be sent to the International Relations Office at Sofia University via email only through the respective International Relations Office at the Home University.
The documents sent directly by the student will not be accepted.
Deadlines both for the nomination and application procedures:
- winter semester/ full academic year – 31st May;
- summer semester – 31st October
Note: The deadlines are valid both for remote and face-to-face short-term mobilities.
The applications duly received by Sofia University will be subject to approval by the Host Faculty at Sofia University. The Host Faculty reserves the right to determine specific conditions to accept the student and not to approve the application.
The exchange student who applications are approved will receive an Invitation letter issued by the International Relations Office at Sofia University.
Sofia University could provide dormitory facilities for the accepted exchange student on the basis of availability.
Before arrival at Sofia the student don’t forget to:
- send a copy of Health Insurance valid for the full period of stay in Bulgariа;
- send a copy of Visa valid for the full period of stay in Bulgaria;
- make sure that international passport is valid for the full period of stay in Bulgaria;
- inform the Embassy in Bulgaria (if any) about the short-term study at Sofia University.
