INSAIT is pleased to welcome Dr. Michael Reichle as its newest tenure-track faculty member. Dr. Reichle joins the institute from ETH Zurich, where he was a postdoctoral researcher in the Foundations of Cryptography group led by Prof. Dennis Hofheinz.
An internationally recognized researcher in modern cryptography, Dr. Reichle’s expertise spans searchable encryption, blind signatures, threshold cryptography, zero-knowledge proofs, and secure protocols. His work develops the theoretical foundations enabling secure, privacy-preserving digital systems—directly addressing critical challenges at the intersection of security, efficiency, and real-world deployment.
Dr. Reichle earned his PhD in Computer Science from École Normale Supérieure (ENS) and Inria Paris, following double master's degrees from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and Grenoble INP–ENSIMAG.
His research is regularly featured at the world's premier cryptography conferences, including CRYPTO, EUROCRYPT, ASIACRYPT, S&P, and CCS. Notably, his breakthrough paper on Dynamic Local Searchable Symmetric Encryption was invited to the prestigious Journal of Cryptology, an honor reserved for a select few outstanding papers from CRYPTO 2022. Beyond research, Dr. Reichle is deeply committed to the academic community, having served on major program committees like EUROCRYPT, coordinated information security curricula at ETH Zurich, and mentored the next generation of cryptographic talent. He also collaborates with industry, including with PQShield, a company that specializes in post-quantum cryptography.
At INSAIT, Dr. Reichle will establish a dedicated research program in cryptography and information security. He will work closely with world-renowned cybersecurity pioneer Prof. David Basin (Full Professor at ETH Zurich), who joins INSAIT as an affiliated faculty member to spearhead the institute's new security group. Together, their collaborative efforts will play a pivotal role in advancing secure and trustworthy AI systems, privacy-preserving technologies, and the mathematical foundations of computer science.
Dr. Reichle's appointment further expands INSAIT's growing team of world-class faculty conducting high-impact, fundamental research at the global forefront of artificial intelligence and computer science.
