Prof. Popov was born on1st April, 1932. He graduated Faculty of Law, Sofia University in 1955. All his scientific, social and lecturer's career was connected to Alma Mater. He specialized in Germany, Russia and France. He was a Vice-Rector between 1989-1991.

Prof. Popov worked in the field of civil, contractual and commercial law. He became Assistant Professor in 1962, Senior Assist. Prof. in 1970, Assoc. Prof. 1975 and Professor in 1987. He was a Vice- Dean of the Faculty of Law between 1978- 1983, and Head of Department of Civil Law Science (twice, between 1888-1993 and 1995-2000).

Prof. Popov was Chair of the External Affairs and Law Relations of the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, umpire of the International Commercial Court and Internal Economic Arbitration. He was a member of the Bulgarian Union of Scientists since 1963, the Union of Jurists in Bulgaria and editor-in-chief of the journal "Commercial Law"in 1992.

Personal attitude and creative dedication of Prof. Popov will be example for his colleagues in the Department of Civil Law Science. He will be remembered with respect and reverence.
