His Grace the Bishop of Rousse Neofit was awarded an honorary degree Doctor Honoris Causa of Sofia University.
He was granted the degree in acknowledgement of his initiative to re-open the Faculty of Theology within Alma Mater in 1990, and his devoted work as its first Dean. In addition, he re-introduced the speciality Theology as a completion of the areas of knowledge taught at the University with regards to the European tradition and the classical principle „litterarum universitas”. His work is also in the field of music, being a supporter of the classical singing and a dedicated conductor of the Chamber Ensemble “St. Joan Kukuzel”; his speech was devoted to “The Orthodox Singing Tradition: Treasure and Beauty”.
