Awarding an honorary degree Doctor Honoris Causa of Sofia University to Prof. Ioanis Tarnanidis, ex-Dean of the Faculty of Theology at Thessaloniki. An official ceremony of Graduation 2009 of the Faculty of Theology was held in the Aula.
Prof. Tarnanidis was given the Honorary Blue Ribbon Insignia, as well as the Latin and Old Bulgarian Decree. He is famous for his work in a number of fields, including Theology, History of the Church, Byzantine Studies, Slavic Studies. In his works he researches on the relations between Byzantium and the Slavic countries. His speech was on"Autokefalia and unity of the Orthodox Church".
The graduates were given their diplomas by Prof. Ilchev, Rector, and Assoc. Prof. Emil Trayanov, Dean of the Faculty of Theology.
