The Academic Council session yesterday was attended by Boyko Borisov, the Prime Miniester and Sergey Ignatov, Minister of Education, Youth and Science
The session was dedicated to the hot issues for Sofia University:
- Change in the legislation towards allowing the state universities to have students on a paid programmes provided there is capacity;
- Change in the legislation regarding students from the EU which will allow them to study on paid programmes without having to take admission exams;
- Change in the methodology in deciding the number of students and doctoral students within the frame of the current subsidy;
- Discussion on the potential solutions of the problems with the Botanic Gardens in Balchik;
- Discussion on the possibilities for cutting the expenses and further optimization of the activities for the next 6 months;
- Starting a procedure for a joint Bulgarian-Korean IT Coordination Centre;
- Changes in the accreditation system of the higher educational institutions and real binding with the financing;
- Committee under the Prime Minister to design a long-term programme for development of education and science;
- Funding to be ensured for science under the strategy "Europe 2020";
- Opportunities for direct funding for the 9 cultural buildings managed by Sofia University;
- Using the opportunities of the Law for stimulating scientific research for building up Think-Tanks - the link between science and business;
- Improving the communication between Sofia University and Ministry of Education Youth and Science.
