As the tradition goes, the celebrations were opened by laying wraths before the monument of the Patron, St Kliment by the Rector, the cedmic Council, lecturers and students. Prof. Biolchev opened the celebrations in the Aula by the appeal "Let us serve Bulgaria", then the Rector Ivan Ilchev gave a speech. Assoc. Prof. Boyko Penchev, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Slavic Studies presented an Academic speech on "Knowledge is Freedom".

The Vice Rector Prof. Gerdzhikov announced the names of these who received their academic ranks in 2010.

Official guests of the event were the Dean of the Sorbonne Graduate Business School, Prof. Christine Pochet and the Programme Director of the joint programme "Management of Human Resources and Corporate Social Responsibility", Prof. Alush.

The gRand Award for research of Sofia University for 2010 is given to Prof. Dimitar Popov, Facuty of History. His 60th anniversary was commemorated by issuing three new monographs "Greek Intellectual and the Thracian Word", Thracian Religion" and "Thracian Gods".

The award of Sofia Municipality for the best young scientist of Sofia University for 2010 was given to Assist. Prof. Dr. Milen Bogdanov - Faculty of Chemistry. Between 2004 and 2010 he is the author or co-author of 28 scientific publications, and was cited 39 times in established journals.
