In the week of February 5-9, 2024, the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration and the Faculty of Physics of Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" welcomed the final accreditation mission of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in connection with the newly created master's program in English "Nuclear Technologies, Management, and Innovations". The program, slated for official commencement on March 25 of the same year, has already garnered interest from 21 industry candidates who have submitted their documentation.

Dr. John Roberts led the mission in Sofia, accompanied by representatives from IAEA-accredited programs: Prof. Attila Ashodi from Budapest University of Technology and Economics, and Prof. Radek Škoda from the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen. Representatives from Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" included Assoc. Prof. Plamen Petkov, co-director of the program from the Faculty of Physics, along with the Deans of both faculties - Prof. Georgi Rainovski from the Faculty of Physics and Assoc. Prof. Atanas Georgiev from the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, as well as Vice-Deans and prominent professors associated with the new program.

The visit began with a presentation of the results of the work of the team from the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration and the Faculty of Physics concerning the recommendations received during the first visit in March 2023. Then meetings were held not only with representatives of the University but also with the Nuclear Regulatory Agency (NAR). The first and the current, final, mission aimed to assess the readiness of Sofia University to receive accreditation from the so-called International Management Academy (INMA) of the IAEA with its new Master's program "Nuclear Technologies, Management, and Innovation".

During the week, meetings were held in the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration and in the Faculty of Physics, where elements of the program, its management processes, and future development plans were presented.

The official accreditation decision is expected to be finalized in the spring of 2024.

The master's program "Nuclear Technologies, Management, and Innovations" is in professional direction 3.7 Administration and Management and was created jointly by the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration and the Faculty of Physics. It lasts 4 semesters and is entirely in English. The disciplines in the program will be led by full-time professors at SU, by part-time professors from practice, as well as by guest lecturers from foreign and Bulgarian scientific organizations, institutions, and companies.
