Aim of the programme:

To educate qualified specialists proficient in the modern forms, methods and means of analysis and decision making in the field of economics and finance. During the course of study, students acquire knowledge and skills in skills in economic theory and policy, finance and financial institutions and markets, statistical analysis and economic aspects of law. Balanced teaching of classical and modern theoretical models and concepts deepens students' training and facilitates the acquisition of practical skills in analysing modern economic and financial processes. The interdisciplinary nature of the Master's programme broadens the professional preparation of students and is a prerequisite for their successful implementation in the dynamically changing economic and market environment.

Graduates of the programme obtain the qualification of Master of Economics and Finance. After successful graduation, in addition to a Master's degree in Economics and Finance, if they wish, graduates can continue their studies in one of the more specialised Master programmes offered by the Faculty of Economics and Business Admnistration and obtain a second master's degree.

Admission requirements: see general requirements. The Master's programme is open to persons with a bachelor's or master's degree in a subject other than Economics and Finance and Business Administration.

 

Possible career opportunities for graduates of the Master's programme:

Managers of economic, financial and administrative departments in all public and private organisations, as well as non-govermental organisations, analysts in economic, finance, trade and other departments and directorates in ministries, agencies, enterprises, municipal and regional administrations, scientific research units, experts in the development of strategies and business projects, their evaluation and securing sources of financing; consultants in departments of planning and forecasting, organisation and management, risk assessment, financial intermediation and etc. in public and business organisations; lecturers in economic disciplines in higher education and vocational education, and entrepreneurs forming and running their own (and family) businesses.

The duration of the training is 1 year (2 semesters) and is carried out part-time only on Saturdays and Sundays during the winter and summer semesters.

The course covers:

  • Basic training - compulsory academic subjects that build the professional specialization of a Master in Economics and Finance - economic, financial, statistical and legal knowledge necessary for the successful performance of various organizational, analytical and managerial functions in diverse organizations.
  • Specialist training - free elective training in personal finance, institutional economics, labour market and industrial relations, European policies and programmes, corporate economics, social protection and social security, and management of human resources.
  • Optional training on students' request in applied economic analysis and monetary policy analysis.
  • Practical training in economics and finance with emphasis on economic development and financial processes taking place in Bulgaria, as well as current challenges for the Bulgarian economy and financial sector.

Students may choose to graduate by passing a state examination (during the state examination sessions in July and September) or by developing a master's thesis (in November and March).
